NGOs Food Guidelines and Mid-day Meal Scheme

Serving Mid Day Meals as Per the Government Guidelines!

Under the MDM scheme, all students enrolling in government schools, local body schools, government-aided schools, special training centres (STC), etc. get a nutritious meal a day. With the same initiative, Annamrita as an NGO, is working with the central and state Govt. entities and providing nutritious meals to underprivileged school-going children. Every child between the ages of 6 to 14 receives cooked meals during the respective lunch breaks of the schools. Basically, the scheme supports the students in classes I through VIII.

When the scheme was introduced, there were many difficulties faced by the Government. To make the scheme effective, the Government is collaborating with NGOs like Annamrita Foundation which acts as a perfect fit.

Role of Teachers in MDM Programme

Role of Teachers in MDM Programme

As per the Government guidelines, the buying, cooking, or execution of the PM poshan yojana should not be done by the headmaster or teachers. They must, however, oversee the programme and guarantee that:

  • Appropriate quality and quantity of food items are supplied to children in accordance with their attendance each day.
  • Children’s entitlements are exhibited prominently throughout the school.
  • Children wash their hands before and after eating, and food is prepared in a sanitized way.
  • At no point are stray animals or other animals permitted on school grounds.
  • The cook and health assistants are checked on a regular basis.
  • The mid day meal should be inspected for quality before being served.

At Annamrita Foundation, each prepared meal is precisely administered under an FSMS – Food Safety Management System to ensure optimum food quality is maintained.

Regular Monitoring of The Programme And Its Impact

Regular monitoring of the Mid-Day Meal Program is required. This involves providing meals on a regular basis and sticking to a weekly plan, food grain availability, cost of cooking is available, grain storage in a proper manner, honorarium for the cook and health assistant, etc. All district officers, District Education Officers, District Project Coordinators, and more Coordinators should visit schools on a regular basis to monitor the program’s implementation and assess its impact.

Annamrita Foundation is serving thousands of schools all over India, keeping all of the above-mentioned guidelines in mind. Right from serving mid-day meals in government aided and non-aided schools, we proudly take all the initiatives to support the needy.

Role of Annamrita Foundation

Role of Annamrita Foundation

Different NGOs like Annamrita Foundation can be a part of this MDM initiative and help Government in the following aspects –

  • Provision of a prepared mid-day meal for students
  • Training and capacity development, monitoring and evaluation, research, and other resources are provided to the programme.

At Annamrita Foundation, a dedicated team of individuals is working hard towards the same goals as the government. Our mid day meal NGO team has been working tirelessly to achieve the shared aim of ending hunger by providing mid-day meals to the poor in schools for the last several years. Yes, motivating people to donate more is always a tough task. However, many corporate organizations are collaborating with us to contribute to the cause. The Section 135 of the Companies Act by the Indian Government has turned many companies to be a part of social causes (only if they earn a certain turnover and profitability).

Our mid day meals give children the proper nourishment to complement their health, therefore assisting in the battle against two of India’s most important issues: malnutrition and poverty. As one of the top mid day meal NGOs in India, Annamrita carries out the PM poshan scheme in Government aided as well as non-aided Schools. We aim to provide the children with ‘satvik ahaar’ that helps them with the right nutrition in their formative years.
